The 23rd Congress of the Carpathian-Balkan Geological Association (CBGA 2026) will take place in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, on 9-11 September 2026. The congress invites geoscientists from the Carpathian-Balkan realm and beyond to share fundamental and applied research, strengthen cross-border collaboration, and explore the geology of Transylvania and surrounding regions.
CBGA 2026 is the 4th Romanian edition of the CBGA Congress, following Romanian meetings held in Bucharest in 1927, 1961, and 1981.
After almost half a century, Romania is hosting the congress again, with Babeș-Bolyai University supported by the Romanian Academy and partner institutions.
The CBGA is a non-governmental, international, scientific, non-political and non-profit union of geoscientists working in the Carpathian-Balkan region and surrounding areas. The Association is affiliated to the International Union of Geological Sciences as a regional organization.
Its aims are to promote collaborative cross-border geological research, training and specialization across all fields of geosciences and related environmental disciplines. CBGA organizes congresses, supports Working Groups, stimulates discussion on key geological topics, and publishes scientific materials through congress volumes, maps, monographs and its official journals.
